On Sunday, September 10, more than 500 participants in the annual Big Move Cancer Ride will gather at White Meadows Farm in Pelham.
“For the past 15 years, the Big Move Cancer Ride has woven itself into the fabric of the Niagara community, embodying unity, hope, and determination,” the Niagara Health Foundation shared in a recent press release.
“This year’s event promises an unforgettable day of cycling, camaraderie, and a shared commitment to improving cancer care in the region.”
Both casual and competitive cyclists will take part in the event.
“(Participants) of all levels and backgrounds have contributed to this extraordinary feat, riding 25km, 50km, and 75 km routes, along with the recently introduced 12km family ride,” the Foundation stated. “Participants challenge themselves physically and embody the spirit of solidarity that defines the Niagara region.”
The Big Move Cancer Ride directly supports local cancer care. Proceeds from the event support the Walker Family Cancer Centre and the provision of high-quality health-care to residents of Niagara.
“Since the (Walker) facility opened (in 2013), it has supported over 9,000 radiation therapy visits that would have otherwise taken place outside of Niagara and had 22,000 treatment visits in 2022/23 alone,” the Foundation shared. “Through the generosity of donors, and community partners, Niagara Health Foundation funds equipment, facilities, research and education that help maintain and improve the health of Niagara residents.”

Since its inception in 2008, the Big Move Cancer Ride has raised over $5,000,000 for the Walker Family Cancer Centre.
