On Wednesday May 1st, the Niagara Children’s Centre kicked off its 2024 Help Kids Shine campaign. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help provide direct assistance to children with health challenges and special needs.
“Before connecting with the Centre we were overwhelmed with the unknown,” shared Courtney De Caire, mother of two-year-old Andrew De Caire. Andrew suffers from hemiplegia, a type of cerebral palsy that impacts one side of his body. “We were feeling very isolated and were unsure how to navigate this new journey that we were on. Not only were we new parents, but we were also parents with a child who had significant health concerns.”
When Andrew was a newborn, the De Caires brought him to the Niagara Children’s Centre where he began to receive physiotherapy. His parents are thrilled with the joyful, vibrant and resilient toddler that Andrew is today.
“We’re most thankful for the unconditional support and guidance from the entire team,” shared De Caire, reflecting on the immense support that Andrew receives from physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers and speech-language pathologists. “The Niagara Children’s Centre is the best part of our story. With the support of donors in our community, children like Andrew are given a chance to access life-changing therapy and support that help them reach their full potential.”
The De Caires are one example of the many families that have found immense encouragement and practical support at the Niagara Children’s Centre, as they have navigated the development of their special-needs children. As a local not-for-profit organization, the Centre relies on the generosity of Niagara’s residents, businesses and philanthropists.
“We are grateful for the ongoing support of our partners, including local radio stations, Newstalk 610 CKTB, 97.7 HTZ FM, and Move 105.7, as well as businesses throughout the Niagara Region,” explained Oksana Fisher, Niagara Children’s Centre CEO. “Community donations are crucial to sustaining many of our services and planning strategically.”
During this year’s campaign, the Children’s Centre is hoping to raise $350,000. In support of this objective, both Wormald Masse Keen Lopinski (WMKL) Chartered Accountants LLP, as well as O’Hara Trucking and Excavating have pledged to match campaign donations up to a total of $25,000.
“Having worked with the Children’s Centre previously on some smaller initiatives, our organization was very familiar with the important work they do for children and families across the region,” shared WMKL Partner Al Jovaisas. “Making this donation to the Children’s Centre felt like a natural extension of our support in the community.”
