Down Highway 406 in Welland, the Niagara College Knights are playing basketball and volleyball, and it’s the women’s basketball team leading the way at (8-1) on the season entering the holiday break.
A very impressive start for the lady Knights as rookie head coach Kimbal Mackenzie – a member of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Champion Niagara River Lions – has to be happy with his team’s current five-game win streak.
His calm, cool and collected demeanor is wearing off on his players.
“Remain calm, basketball is a game of runs,” said Mackenzie after his team’s latest victory.
Niagara’s Men’s Basketball team sits at (4-6) but is coming off a 96-75 victory over Fanshawe to close out the calendar year.
In volleyball, the Knights’ Women’s team is (7-4) and finished 2024 on a modest two-game win streak.
As for the men’s volleyball team, they enter 2025 at (6-5).
Niagara College plays its varsity sports on campus and Welland.
The Knights also offer curling as a tournament sport.
