The squeaking of shoes and whistles from coaches will be heard as almost 30,000 students return to campus at either Brock University and Niagara College this week.

Niagara’s two post-secondary school institutions feature almost 30,000 students, and over a one-thousand student athletes.

Brock University features the Badgers, while Niagara College features the Knights.

The Badgers feature 37 varsity sports teams, while the Knights offer six and two tournament teams as the graphics below illustrate.

The Brock women’s and men’s soccer teams 2024-25 seasons are already underway, while Niagara’s soccer seasons kickoff later this week.

Both programs have featured success at the provincial and national levels.

The Badgers have now won 96 OUA (Ontario University Athletics) Championships and 49 U Sports (Canadian – National) Championships

College sports are on the rise in Canada as well. And so are the coaches behind the athletes. For instance, the latest coaching announcement at Niagara is current pro basketball player with the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Niagara River Lions, Kimbal Mackenzie – named Interim Head Coach of the Knights Women’s Basketball team.

Some of the best athletes to witness live in person during the fall, winter and spring months play right down the street in St. Catharines, Thorold and Welland on campus at Brock University or Canada Games Park and Niagara College.
