The Garden City will be curling central starting Sunday, as a Canadian champion will be crowned.
As part of its ongoing 125th anniversary celebrations, the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club will be hosting the 2024 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. Curlers from each province and territory will compete at the club over seven days, beginning Sunday, Nov. 3. The champion will be crowned on finals day, Saturday, Nov. 9.
“We are proud to have the honour of hosting this prestigious event in our special anniversary year. This is one of the few national curling championships still held in a curling club. We know our club has the perfect facilities for hosting this event. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone to the 2024 Mixed Curling Championship in St. Catharines,” said Michelle Scott, chair
of the 2024 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship host committee.
Scott, who once played in the Canadian Mixed Championships, certainly appreciates what it takes to put together such a huge event.
“I sure do. We’ve had a great committee that met kind of monthly, then in this last month weekly, and in this last week even daily,” Scott said.
“It does take a lot of work, working with Curling Canada, working with your committee, and of course working with your facility – and everyone has been very accommodating.”
The public is invited to take in the action, for free, and Scott points out that seating on the ice has been added at the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club.
Games begin at 12:30 on November 3 as pool play will continue through Wednesday, November 6, before the seeding and playoff rounds on Thursday and Friday.
The semifinals (10 a.m.) and medal game (2:30 p.m.) take place on Saturday, November 9.
