The future of healthcare in Niagara got another major financial boost last week.

On October 6, the Niagara Health Foundation announced that the It’s Our Future fundraising campaign in support of the new South Niagara Hospital received a collective $1,375,000 from 14 local community groups, service clubs, and businesses.

The new selection of ‘Founding Donors’ includes:

  • Bosch Rexroth Canada
  • The Byl Family
  • Ida and Bob Gale Sr. Community Fund
  • GNGH Auxiliary
  • Jim and Liz Grice
  • Knights of Columbus, Hennepin Council No.1652
  • The Mathur Family
  • The Marcella and Vincent McNamara Family
  • Niagara Falls Bridge Commission
  • Niagara Falls Canadian Polish Home
  • Niagara German Canadian Club
  • The Trabucco Family
  • Mitch Williams
  • Sherman Zavitz

With these recent contributions, the It’s Our Future campaign – which launched nearly two years ago in December 2021 – has now reached a total of over $62 million in pledges.

Andrea Scott, President and CEO of the Niagara Health Foundation, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the Founding Donors’ remarkable commitment, saying, “The It’s Our Future Campaign embodies the incredible power of our community coming together to make a lasting impact. The support we’ve received from our Founding Donors inspires us all and reinforces our belief in a brighter, healthier future for South Niagara.”

It’s Our Future campaign co-chairs Mayor Jim Diodati and Harry Oakes spoke to the power of collectiveness and the community. “The groups on this list have ‘give’ as their middle name. These groups are known for giving and have done more of that in this unique show of support, coming together to pledge more than $1M to the new hospital!”

Other ‘Founding Donors’ include Spencer Fox, Mark Basciano, the Angelo Butera Family, Beth and Tom Rankin and family, Guery Goyo and family, Dominic Dilalla and family, the Oakes Family, McCall MacBain Foundation, Jim Pattison, the Marotta Family, the Sottile Family, the LJ Mian Family, Tony and Connie Zappitelli and family, and Michael and Jana Katz.

The South Niagara Hospital, located at the corners of Montrose and Biggar roads in Niagara Falls, is set to be a cutting-edge acute care facility, spanning 1.3 million square feet and housing 469 private rooms. Distinguished by its centers of excellence in complex care, wellness in aging and stroke care, the hospital “embodies a vision of advanced healthcare that will attract the foremost talents in the medical field.”

In February 2023, EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare was awarded a $3.6 billion contract to design, build, finance, and maintain the facility.

The multibillion-dollar Niagara Falls facility is one of the single largest design, build, finance, and maintain investments for a new healthcare project in provincial history.

Official ground-breaking took place in July.

The hospital is set to open summer 2028.
