The community of Beamsville received $50.4 million from the provincial government to build the new West Niagara Secondary School. The project is now complete, and the grand opening ceremony was held last week.

“The grand opening of West Niagara Secondary School in Beamsville is great news for our community,” shared Sam Oosterhoff, Member of Provincial Parliament for Niagara West. “This new school will ensure families and students have access to a quality learning environment in the years ahead.”

The school is part of the Ontario government’s plan to invest $16 billion over the next decade to the construction and enhancement of cutting-edge educational facilities across the province. It provides 1,533 new secondary spaces for local students. It also includes a community theatre and greenhouse.

“Under Premier Ford’s leadership, we are building more state-of-the-art schools to support the needs of Ontario’s students, families and growing communities,” shared Ontario Minister of Infrastructure Kinga Surma.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce also weighed in.

“We are determined to build schools and expansions faster, part of our commitment to modernize schools in fast growing communities,” said Lecce. “We are proud to deliver a new, state-of-the-art West Niagara Secondary School for local families, along with increasing funding, staffing and a back-to-the-basics focus on reading, writing and math skills to help ensure students graduate with confidence that they can succeed in a good-paying career.”

Sue Barnett, Chair of the District School Board of Niagara, said she is very pleased for the opportunities this new school will bring to families and students in Beamsville.

“West Niagara Secondary School stands as a testament to the power of decisions made with students’ best interest at heart, resulting in expanded opportunities for students to learn, grow and thrive in a remarkable space with something for everyone,” said Barnett. “The District School Board of Niagara extends our sincere appreciation to the Ontario government for their generous support and funding, enabling us to bring exceptional new facilities like this one to our communities.”

The West Niagara Secondary School is located at 5699 King Street in Beamsville.
