The magic and majesty of Niagara’s world-famous falls remains unrivaled across the country.

According to a new report from BonusFinder, Niagara Falls is Canada’s “most magical” place.

“Situated on the Niagara River, it is known for its mesmerizing display of roaring sound which can be heard from a distance, creating a hypnotic auditory experience,” read the report. “Whilst the list for the seven natural wonders of the world varies, Niagara Falls… is the one constant.”

In order to determine “most magical”, BonusFinder compiled a seed list from online sources such as Thrillist and CNT. From this, the site recorded the number of Instagram hashtags for each location and then used Tripadvisor to scrape reviews for mentions of “magic”, “magical”, “enchanting”, and “majestic”.

Finally, a score was then created, and the top locations were ranked from least to most magical.

Niagara Falls finished first with a score of 9.6 out of 10, topping Alberta’s Lake Louise (9.4) and British Columbia’s Moraine Lake (8.8).

Mayor of Niagara Falls Jim Diodati celebrated the honour across social media on Wednesday.

“I agree that our Falls are absolutely mesmerizing every time I visit them so it’s no surprise Niagara Falls has now been named the most magical place in Canada!”, said Mayor Diodati. “As Freddie Mercury sings ‘it’s a kind of magic!’.”

Rounding out the top 10, in order, were: Capilano Suspension Bridge (8.7), Stanley Park (8.5), Toronto Island (8.0), Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse (7.9), Glacier National Park (7.4), Cape Spear Lighthouse (7.1), and Athabasca Falls and Hopewell Rocks (tied 6.8).

All data for the report was collected on Aug. 9, 2023.
