Last month, the Rotary Club of Fonthill hosted their annual Luxury Purse Bingo. The event, eagerly anticipated each fall, allows community members the opportunity to catch up over a legendary game while supporting local not-for-profits.
This year’s Purse Bingo was held at the Accursi Room of the Fonthill Meridian Community Centre (MCC). In a post event media release, Fonthill Rotary Club said that it was thrilled to host a “full house of participants and volunteers”.
Each purse bingo table grouping could accommodate up to eight people. Individual tickets were $45 per person. A luxury purse could be sponsored for $250 and would include one complimentary ticket. All proceeds from the event are delivered directly by the Rotary Club of Fonthill to local charitable organizations.
The evening consisted of 10 games, each with an opportunity to win a designer purse funded by the generosity of sponsors. An optional eleventh game was held for a luxury gift basket filled with donated items from local businesses.
Reflecting on the success of the event, the Fonthill Rotary Club said in the release that support was “outstanding”. As a result of the generosity of donors, the club is able to deliver a $5,000 cheque to the Pathstone Mental Health Satellite Program and a $4,600 cheque to Pelham Cares.
The event was coordinated by Ann Harrison, Annie Holtby, and Mel Groom.
“We are happy to coordinate and host an evening of fun and purses,” Groom told The Niagara Independent on behalf of the Purse Bingo Team. “In return, with our guests’ support, we are able to give back to two vital social services who do exceptional work for the most vulnerable in our Pelham community.”
The event coordinators extended their gratitude to various individuals, businesses and community members who sponsored the Purse Bingo event. These include Pelham Regional Councillor Diana Huson, Colliers International’s Shelly Marr Mouck, Troy Killick of CIBC Private Wealth Woody Gundy, KwikFit’s Frank Adamson, Darcy Richardson of the Darcy Richardson Real Estate Group, the Meridian Credit Union, and three Proud Fonthill Rotarians and Friends of Rotary who sponsored purses.
Debbie Pine of Pinesold Realty was a purse sponsor who also donated to the luxury gift basket. This basket was valued at slightly under $1,400 and contained gifts from the following Fonthill businesses: Troy Thompson of Butcher and Banker, Donna Butler of Donna’s Fashions, Carol and Alexandra LaCivita of The Village Boutique, Trina Moscato of Styles, Creations by V’s Vera Mckeown, as well as Mossimo’s pizza gift basket.
This luxury basket also included a gorgeous lady’s necklace and a gentleman’s watch, donated by Sapphires Custom Jewellery’s Tamara Steele.
