Local entrepreneur launches Kickstarter campaign for hockey tabletop game

Morrison shared that Hockey Hardware has all the standard components that would be expected in a quality board game, including dice, various types of cards and the ability to play with numerous players. A single game includes three periods and can be fully completed in less than one hour.

With another hockey regular season winding down over the next several months, many fans will soon be looking to maintain their connection to the game during the summer months. With this goal in mind, Billy Morrison, a life-long hockey enthusiast, fantasy hockey guru and lover of games, has developed a new prototype for a tabletop hockey game called ‘Hockey Hardware.’

“It’s been an absolutely crazy week,” Morrison reflected on the Kickstarter campaign for Hockey Hardware. “We’ve had a really strong start, and there’s still over three weeks to go before the campaign deadline.”

Kickstarter, a crowdfunding platform for new ventures, provides an opportunity for budding entrepreneurs to market their products for potential investment. If the fundraising goal is met during the allotted period of time, the funds will be collected from pledgers and distributed for use in furthering the project.

“Between now and February 17, we are seeking to get the word out, provide opportunities for people to test drive the product and attract the investment we need to meet our goal of raising $125,000,” Morrison explained. “If we’re successful, we’ll be able to continue producing ‘Hockey Hardware’ on a much larger scale. If we don’t make it, however, it’s pretty much back to square one.”

Morrison shared that Hockey Hardware has all the standard components that would be expected in a quality board game, including dice, various types of cards and the ability to play with numerous players. A single game includes three periods and can be fully completed in less than one hour.

Morrison, who currently serves as a Legislative Assistant to Niagara Falls Member of Parliament Tony Baldinelli, says that the help of family, friends as well as hockey and game enthusiasts in Niagara and Ottawa has been essential to the success that Hockey Hardware has experienced to date.

“Hockey Hardware was designed in Ottawa and tested in Niagara,” Morrison said. “My boss, Tony Baldinelli, has been an amazing encouragement and support for me. I am also incredibly grateful to Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, who served as my mentor through Invest Ottawa, and Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa of Niagara-on-the-lake, for his interest and enthusiasm for Hockey Hardware.”

“Finally, thank you so much to my friends, family, and my wife, Katherine, for all of their unwavering support… I couldn’t have done this without them!”
