Official groundbreaking of Spring Creek Transformer Station occurs in Lincoln

Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West and Associate Minister of Energy-Intensive Industries, released a statement on the groundbreaking of a new municipal transformer station in Lincoln on Friday. Once complete, Oosterhoff says the new transformer station will add much-needed energy capacity and increase energy resiliency for customers in the Niagara West area.

Niagara Peninsula Energy is investing over $35 million to build the new station, which will step down power from an adjacent Hydro One Networks transmission line to support three existing transformer stations, located in Smithville, Vineland, and Beamsville. The transformer station is expected to provide an additional 102 megawatts of electricity distribution to Lincoln and West Niagara.

The transformer station’s construction will be managed by Black & McDonald, a Canadian contractor, and is expected to be completed by 2029.

“This new transformer station in Lincoln will provide increased capacity to protect our electrical grid and support good-paying jobs in growing communities across Niagara West,” said Oosterhoff. “This project – supported by Niagara Peninsula Energy – ensures that local families and businesses have access to reliable energy and is an important step in supporting the competitiveness of our region.”

Lincoln Mayor Sandra Eason released a statement on the groundbreaking as well.

“Today’s groundbreaking marks an important investment in the future of Lincoln and West Niagara,” said Easton. “As our communities grow, projects like the Spring Creek Transformer Station are essential to ensuring we have the infrastructure in place to meet current energy demands, support new residential and industrial development and strengthen long-term economic prosperity across the region.”

Igor Rusic, President and Chief Executive Officer of Niagara Peninsula Energy, also spoke about the groundbreaking.

“The Spring Creek Transformer Station represents one of the most significant infrastructure investments in the history of Niagara Peninsula Energy and demonstrates our commitment to supporting the rapid growth taking place across Lincoln and the surrounding region,” said Rusic.

“This project will ensure we continue to deliver safe, reliable and resilient electricity service to our customers while preparing our system for future residential, commercial and industrial growth.”

Niagara Peninsula Energy provides electricity distribution to both residential and business customers in Niagara Falls, Lincoln, Pelham, and West Lincoln. It is jointly owned by Niagara Falls Holding Corporation, which itself is owned by Niagara Falls, and Peninsula West Power Inc., which is jointly owned by Lincoln, Pelham, and West Lincoln.
